The Chairman of Surrey County Council, Lavinia Sealy, was warmly welcomed at Disability Initiative on Wednesday 19th October 2011.
Disability Initiative is an independent specialist charity that provides a range of therapeutic services to nearly 100 adults with physical disabilities. Lavinia Sealy toured the resource centre and had an opportunity to chat with clients who explained about the range of programmes and their many achievements. DI’s clients are supported to rebuild their self-confidence and develop skills and abilities which enable them to live the lives they choose.
Lavinia has been a county councillor since 1997. She was formerly a teacher of history and politics and also a governor at several mainstream and special schools. She is heavily committed to working with the voluntary and business sectors and played a key part in setting up Surrey Compact – a partnership between public, voluntary, community and faith organisations.
Lucy Brown, Chief Executive of Disability Initiative comments, “We were delighted to receive Lavinia who spent time discussing the changes in adult social care and chatting with clients and experiencing some of the programmes on offer such as personal fitness, IT and independent living skills.
Lavinia Sealy said “DI is an inspirational model in the social care marketplace”.
