Disability Initiative is absolutely delighted to have been nominated as the chosen charity for Windlesham Golf Club this year. Having visited DI earlier in the year, both the Men’s Captain, Alan McDonald, and the Ladies Captain, Sue Fender, were unanimous in their decision to adopt DI for their 2009/2010 fundraising events. During their visit to DI in March, Alan and Sue witnessed at first hand the enthusiasm and inspiration that DI provides to its clients and were thoroughly impressed by the unique approach and the achievements of the clients. Sunday 4th October saw the new Captains “drive-in” event where they both had to tee-off as part of the tradition of a new captain’s appointment. This was followed by a luncheon and prize giving in the beautifully refurbished club house which overlooked the immaculate greens and stunning views of the course. Bill Biddell, President of DI and Lucy Brown, Chief Executive were guests for lunch and gave a small presentation about the work that the charity does and the difference that generous donations make to disabled people’s lives. Lucy comments, “I was overwhelmed at the generosity and support from the members of Windlesham Golf Club who not only supported DI 7 years when they gifted us £15,000 but believe we are already on the way to raise this target again. The money raised back in 2004 went some way towards purchasing specialist equipment and providing services that make a difference”. The main fundraising events of the year will be the Charity Days on 31st March and 20th June 2010. For more information on Windlesham Golf Club please go to www.windleshamgolf.com |
