High Sheriff of Surrey visits Disability Initiative in Camberley

The High Sheriff of Surrey, Rob Douglas CBE, visited Disability Initiative accompanied by his wife, Hilary, on Friday 16th July 2010.
Disability Initiative is an independent specialist charity that supports over 100 adults with physical disabilities by providing a range of therapeutic services.
Rob and Hilary toured the resource centre and had an opportunity to chat with clients who explained about the range of programmes and the many achievements they have made. DI’s clients are supported to rebuild their self confidence and skills, take risks and develop abilities which enable them to live the lives they choose.
DI’s mission is to encourage disabled people to integrate fully into society, enabling them to release their potential and aspire to their chosen goals. Disability Initiative, along with its partners, support clients as they strive towards maintaining or increasing their independence, rehabilitation and employment.
Lucy Brown, Chief Executive of Disability Initiative, comments “We were delighted to receive Rob Douglas who spent time chatting with clients and experiencing some of the programmes on offer such as IT, speech therapy and cookery.
Rob Douglas said “My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We were absolutely inspired by the clients’ stories and the immense progress they have made during their time at DI”.
