Surrey County Council visits Disability Initiative

David Hodge, Deputy Leader of Surrey County Council and Michael Gosling, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care in Surrey, visited Disability Initiative on Wednesday 19th May 2010.
They started their visit meeting DI Trustee, Barry Catchpole, and CEO, Lucy Brown, to discuss the personalisation agenda and how DI has pioneered processes in preparation for self-directed support.
They then toured the resource centre meeting clients and chatting informally about achievements, aspirations and outcomes.
In particular, they saw the clients in the computer suite; in the functional mobility area; doing ceramics and art; and even got involved in personal fitness, where David helped a client with his muscle building exercises.
However, the highlight of the tour was sampling the culinary delights made by the themed lunch group lead by DI’s two professional Cordon Bleu chefs. The theme of the day was Ireland and both Michael and David sampled freshly made Guinness cake and soda bread.
All at DI thoroughly enjoyed their visit and we all look forward to welcoming them back to DI in the future.
