Sylvia Hughes publishes her book 'Wheelchairs From Space'

wheelchairs in space pictureA DI client, Sylvia Hughes, has recently published a story to help young children adjust to life in a wheelchair.

Wheelchairs From Space is about talking magic wheelchairs from Planet Zygon that get distributed to places on Earth where they are needed the most – hospitals, care homes and the like. They come to life at night when they are not being used and get up to all sorts of antics.

The inspiration for the book was Sylvia’s grandson who lived a short life of not even three years and unfortunately died of Cerebral Palsy.

Sylvia, herself a wheelchair user who can only use her left hand, has been able to write her book because of the computer skills she has gained whilst at Disability Initiative.  Having attained Adult Learner of the Year in 1981 in partnership with Brooklands College she gained the confidence to undertake such a project that took her a year to write.
