WHAT A DAY!

Swinley Golf Club Gentleman playing golf

The sun shone across the perfectly manicured greens as 19 teams set out play golf on the beautiful course at Swinley Forest Golf Club, near Ascot.

Disability Initiative was extremely fortunate to be granted a charity day by the exclusive and prestigious golf club and DI set out to make use of the club’s facilities to raise as much needed funds for the charity as possible.   As teams of four set out to play the course they were challenged by a number of fundraising initiatives from nearest the pin, longest drive, keeping the ball on the green and a putting competition as well as an auction and raffle of prizes.  DI clients also enjoyed the day as they socialized with guests in the clubhouse and practiced their golf on the greens.

Guests, clients, trustees and staff had a most enjoyable day as the charity raised approximately £14,000.

Derek Thomas, Chairman of DI commented, “I can’t thank the members of Swinley Forest Golf Club enough for giving up their club to us for the day.  All 72 players not only had a memorable day on the course but are now more aware of Disability Initiative and the challenges facing its disabled clients as a result.  As we often say, disability doesn’t discriminate and I think guests realised that they could potentially face a similar trauma such as a stroke, brain injury or debilitating disease at some time in their lives.   We are extremely grateful for their generous donations which make such a difference to our clients”.
