Welcome to Disability Initiative
DI is an established charity that specialises in the provision of services to adults with complex physical disabilities and acquired brain injury.
We operate from a purpose-built centre that offers a fully accessible environment with easy access to Camberley town centre.
At DI, your goals are our goals. Our mission :-
"To offer opportunities and support to those individuals to enable them to release their potential and aspire to their chosen goals"
We help individuals achieve their goals no matter how large or small through a variety of activities, accredited educational courses and therapies unique to DI. Each programme is specifically designed for an individual's needs and aspirations.
DI provides a high standard of care and social rehabilitation that recognises personal choices, dignity and freedom of the individual whilst the resource centre provides a vibrant, progressive and dynamic environment where everyone is able to thrive. Ring us today for a tour of our Resource Centre on 01276 676302.
DI has moved away from a traditional day care centre model but a user-led alternative to statutory day service provision supporting a region that straddles Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire. DI provides a stimulating, positive and holistic environment for our disabled clients through our therapeutic, recuperative, rehabilitation, recreational and support services.
DI is open for its core services from Monday to Friday between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm. Every week approximately 100 disabled people attend DI to work towards their personal goals which may include:
- independent living skills
- pre-vocational training
- opportunities for work experience
- tailor-made individual programmes supported by an occupational therapist
- maintaining independence through social, recreational and leisure activities
- community access
- functional mobility for ambulant and wheelchair users
DI is set up to deliver services primarily for clients with physical disabilities and acquired brain injury and accept applications from physically disabled adults between the ages of 18 and 64. DI welcomes clients with a physical disability which may be:
- Stroke (CVA)
- Cerebal Palsy (CP)
- Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
- Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)
- Epilepsy
- Parkinsons Disease
- Arthritis
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Huntingtons Disease
- Spina Bifida
- Brain Tumour
- Quadraplegia
- Paraplegia
- Motor Neurone Disease
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Fibromyalgia
- Neurological Conditions
Wherever possible, we also try to accommodate individuals with a learning disability, sensory impairment or mental health problems providing that this is linked with their physical disability.
Because physical disability is our key focus, we will not consider clients with learning difficulties, sensory impairments or mental health problems as their primary disability in the absence of a physical disability
DI provides a flexible and responsive support service for disabled people and their carers.
Many clients are referred to DI by a health and social care professional such as a:
- Doctor (GP)
- Social Services Care Manager
- Physiotherapist
- Occupational Therapist
- Social Worker
- Psychologist
- Community Worker
- Psychiatrist
- Speech & Language Therapist
- Specialist or Consultant
Others may be self-referrals.
