Our History

Disability Initiative inception, was a result of innovation and funding, from Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey Social Services, and NHS grants.

DI became a charitable company limited by guarantee. Operations developed, demand increased, and the services grew. At this time, services were being offered across three different sites across Surrey.

DI won a lottery bid for match funding, consolidating the sites and services into one Resource Centre.

Following a formal worldwide opening by the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Her Royal Highness, now Duchess of Edinburgh, became DI’s patron.

DI celebrated its 40^th anniversary.

DI opened its new Satellite Service in Fleet, Hampshire, with support from the Ratcliffe Trust, St Johns Ambulance and Hampshire County Council.

DI remained fully operational throughout covid-19, supporting clients, their families, organisations, and the wider community.

Camberley Resource Centre fully refurbished its garden, thanks to the golfers at Swinley golf day, Kebur, and Squires Garden Centre.
