The charity Disability Initiative (DI) was both grateful and delighted to welcome its Patron of 18 years, Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex, to volunteer at the Camberley Resource Centre earlier today, Wednesday 24th June 2020.
The Countess talked with Carol and Jane, DI’s clients, and heard how the specialist equipment had ensured both clients had retained as much function as possible and both said afterwards that speaking to HRH had motivated them and really lifted their spirits.
The Countess of Wessex then spent time helping Steph and the team put activity packs together for delivery to client’s homes. Steph has home visits from the DI Keyworkers to help with general living skills and is also attending the Resource Centre for support and wellbeing.
HRH went on to demonstrate her culinary skills by making scones, which will be gratefully received by DI’s clients.
HRH was later joined by DI’s President, Bill Biddell, Lucy Brown CEO, Shahid Azeem DI Ambassador and Supporter and the High Sheriff of Surrey, Amanda Tye Operations Manager and Dan Harris, Senior Keyworker. She heard about the extraordinary efforts of the DI team and how in the face of the pandemic they ensured clients past and present were supported and connected.
Disability Initiative have been open throughout the pandemic, and safely ensuring that each and every client and their families has the support they need at home, at the centres, in their communities or remotely.
Lucy Brown, CEO of Disability Initiative, said: “We were delighted to welcome The Countess of Wessex today. Her help was invaluable, as it has been since 2000.
“We are grateful for her support, encouragement, and genuine input. We all agree that DI is incredibly fortunate to have such a hands-on Patron.”
Much of the charity’s success is due to her and our President, Bill Biddell; their support, encouragement, and genuine input. DI is incredibly fortunate to have such a sensational Patron and a phenomenal President, and a Board of Trustees, second to none.
